Be still, young grasshopper. You do not want to appear to be unduly trying to backdoor their process. You must respect their decision. Any recommendation your contact could have made has already been made and considered. Unless he/she has extraordinary influence over this process (likely not or you would have the job), further pressure will likely be untoward. I would remain in passive contact (i.e wait for them to contact you/ talk at the earliest 10 business days), but not more. There is a fine line between "persistent" and "obnoxious". As STorIB, try to cultivate other options while in 'limbo', as you put it.
