“Jonathan, was really helpful. The biggest takeaway was how to run outreach: cast a wide net now, then cut back to the firms where I get traction. Adding middle-market and Canadian banks like Harris Williams, Lincoln, and BMO was something I hadn’t thought about. I’m also changing my emails to be shorter, with a quick hook and a 15-minute ask, and I’ll end chats by asking who they’d recommend I talk to next instead of asking for a referral. Having Stifel as a fallback took some pressure off. Thanks for making it so actionable.”

I have met with 10 headhunters for PE, and only 3 of them are contacting me with opportunities. Should I try to call or e-mail the other headhunters and ask for opportunities, or will this backfire on me and annoy the headhunters?

Think of it as flirting with a girl. If she is ignoring your texts, and not making an effort to talk to you, there is a clear message being sent. Headhunters are the same way.

If they thought you were a worthy enough candidate, they'd be contacting you.

Focus 95% of your efforts on the ones that get back to you. 5% of your efforts can be spent hounding the unresponsive ones if you want...you never know and the worst they can say is NO. Will Hunting is 100% correct: play the field just like dating until you get a commitment (aka job) that you want.
