It's a spring internship. It means fuck all for the most part.
Yes, if you convert for the summer, it saves you the hassle of applying but it doesn't make you any weaker for summer recruiting.
Same as always, apply early this summer and aim to have applications done by September. Network before and after to make sure your application gets beyond the online screening. If this means you have to take a train to a friend's university to network with a bank when they come to visit, so be it.
There isn't any special advice. Preparation is essential. You might want to see what it was that gave other candidates the offer. It's really easy to think that you did everything in your power to make an impression and there is where people trip up. Know your weaknesses and how assessors might have viewed them.
