Yeah they’re interchangeable. The founder’s name was Piper Jeffrey so some people just call it Jefferies (Jeffery’s bank). Kinda like JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley which was founded by Morgan JP Stanley.
Its pretty common in the industry.
