I called the I-Banking institute and the guy told me I don't need any license to become an Investment Banker. However, I would need a Series 79 if I'm working with a broker dealer. How true that is?

It's the Series 7/Series 63 Exam. You definitely need a securities license to execute client trades- I think you need one to work on IPOs and secondaries, but I could be wrong.
