Does a police caution in the UK affect your employability

Hi all,

I recently received an offer from a bank for an M&A role, and was wondering what a caution for common assault might do to the chances of the offer being withdrawn?

It was a stupid mistake where I was in an abusive relationship and lashed out at my partner 2 years ago. I called the FCA and they said it would be fine as it has nothing to do with dishonesty/fraud. Was wondering what you guys think?

Would it be good to let HR know before background check results come back?

How long ago was it? Are you sure it would even come up on the background check? You might want to check with the relevant government/police department if this would come up on background checks.

I had a history when I was a kid but juvenile things dont come up on background checks (here anyway, not sure UK) unless they were very severe, and warnings never do if there was no other penalty/action taken against you.

If it was a while ago I'd say dont worry bout it, its hardly relevant and given its just a caution if they do bring it up you can easily play it off as a bad memory you dont think about too much.

If it was recent you may want to alert HR but really you've already crossed the Rubicon (I assume they've already done the whole is there anything we should know before we check thing) so may as well let it be and you'll probably be fine.

Congratulations on landing an offer btw
