Does HBS/GSB or MF PE care about P/NP this semester/quarter
I have to decide if I’m going to change to P/NP - there’s a lot of uncertainty with my finals being worth 60% of my grade so would love to hear input regarding whether going P/NP would impact my MF or business school placement
Sure, there’s so many qualified candidates that they’d at least take a look at it. Probably not a make or break thing but who knows.
Doubt it, given how much shit has happened this semester I think most people will be understanding towards it. Also B-school and pe only care about your final gpa and maybe major-probably won't dig into your academic history
This is the issue with WSO lol. Just spreading false information as if it were a fact
I am 10000% certain b-schools will “dig into your academic history.” They care greatly about difficulty of course, gpa trends, etc.
I’m sure they will be more flexible on this semester but everything matters in those processes.
Let me rephrase, if OP is weighing a good GPA vs a pass this semester, maintaining a higher gpa is more important especially given the current circumstances. Also, given your B-school application has 5 core components and GPA and major(difficulty of course) captures most of the academic component, p/np is unlikely to be the determining factor in your admission.
Can't imagine any employer will care (as most just ask for GPA during applications, and just verify it during background check with transcript). Business schools are going to actually be looking at your transcript so there's a chance that they might care, but no one here could possibly know how they will react to this situation.
Dude, it's one semester. B schools will not care that much since it's just one semester. They'll use your other semesters as a better barometer. Also, remember that GPA is more a check in the box than anything. So many other things matter more. Don't worry about it that much. Know that as soon as they see the Ps and NPs, they'll be like oh, yeah he was in school during the covid pandemic, let's look at his other grades
I genuinely cannot figure you out. Are you a troll or not? Seems like you constantly oscillate between trolling and giving good advice.
If you follow me closely, I was a troll but I am trying to be abetter person so I can show otehrs that you aren't always born a troll. You can change. I hope to be looked upon in the WSO community as the most improved overall. Hopefully, you understand my suffering and angst that I have had to go through with MS being stuffed in my body left and right by WSO....
with you here. not a clue if this dude is a troll or even a real person. suspicious that he always seems to spell exactly 1-2 words egregiously incorrect in each post.
It's interesting, because some schools have done mandatory P/F instead of optional. Because of this, I'd suspect they'd weigh other semesters or other points on your application more heavily so they can do an easier apples-to-apples comparison between students across the country.
While yes business schools dig into your grades, they're surprisingly not as strict as you might imagine. As an example, some elite schools (ex. Columbia) award 4.3's for A+ but officially report the GPA out of 4.0. HBS/GSB doesn't re-convert this boosted GPA to a proper 4.0 scale. They just take the GPA at face-value and assume as if its out of 4.0.
Lol what if you have a 4.15 GPA then? I think then they'll catch you lol
Yeah lol I think it's not that they don't know about it, they're fully aware, it's just that they don't go to the effort to recalculate the GPA.
Yes. I’ve heard that B-schools are automatically dinging any applicants for the MBA class of 2027 who have optional P/F marks
How much do b schools really care about course rigor?
Honestly, I feel like this isn't high school, where your grades are what define you and that was your career in a way when applying. Your job and what you did will probably weigh more since grades were from back in college 4-5 years agoo....
Speaking as a PE person, I make sure to carve several hours out of my day to comb through prospective associates transcripts to ensure they didn't take any P/F classes. Can't let the rifraff slip through.
What about this past semester where some schools made all classes pass/fail or recommended students to take classes pass/fail?
that person was clearly joking. it won't matter
You'll be fine as long as you get a P. At my school NP = F = 0.0. You can imagine what that does to your gpa.
