Does talking to HR help?
So I'm interested in this boutique bank, but the only person that works there from my school is an MD in HR. Would it help me get a first-round if I talk to her or should I just focus on people in the department I want to join?
I would focus on the people in the department that you want to join. HR usually ends up being just a pain in the ass and nothing more. You can talk to HR, but prioritize talking to the analysts in the department you want to join.
And then you speak to every person in that group and they say ‘HR makes the final decision as to if you can interview with us, and they’ve decided the firm won’t hire anyone from your school in this cycle’
An excuse and another way to say I don't like you and don't want to work with you, buh bye.
so true
exactly. That's why HR can suck my dick.
This happened to me. Only guy at a firm I was talking to (now have an interview with) from my alma mater was in marketing. It was a small enough firm, though he was able to get me in contact with analyst at the firm. Always worth a shot in my opinion.
sir you have the silliest questions when you become a banker you will learn that HR is your enemy
