Doing 2 internships this summer

Hey guys,

The original internship that I was planning to do was canceled, so, at the last minute, I found some boutique internships. Given that basically most internships are remote this summer, would it be a red flag on your resume if you did 2 internships this summer? The thing is that each of them only requires about 15-20 hours of work, so 30-40 hours in total sounds doable.

I am in the process of recruiting for 2021 SA and I'm not sure if HR will think that my internships are BS because i was taking on 2 of them. What do you guys think? Is it better just to go with one or are there benefits to having more internships?

Thanks!

Assuming both of your current internships are fine with it, I don't think it's a big deal. Know plenty of people who have done things like 2 different 6 week internships in a summer, so it just the fact of having two jobs in a summer is definitely not super out of the ordinary. I'm sure HR will understand that remote internships are often part time, so worst case you would just need to explain that and no one will care.

I'd be against it. It would raise an eyebrow on how much quality of work you did or how many tangible skills you got from it.

Talk to any past interns at your school that you may know and choose the job that is less bs.

agree that you should check policies about exclusivity but if you think you can handle both, why not do both and you can always decide later whether you want to include both on your resume / talk about both in recruiting. know some people who had internships their freshman/sophomore summers and supplemented with some side project commitment at the same time. the virtual and shortened nature of things this year also works in your favor if you want to do both. just my opinion

Don't do both, just get extra responsibility at the best place and make a real impression.
