is it ok to take 12 hrs during the school year and find an internship, instead of taking 15 hrs.

Yes, just make sure you will graduate on time. I'm probably going to take 9 hours next semester and have a 3 credit internship = 12 total credits which is the minimum to be a full time student.
I had an internship both semesters while taking 15 credits and still worked about 20 hours a week at the office. It is definitely feasible. Also, an internship would be easier to obtain during the school year because not everyone is looking for an internship as in the summer.

No problem at all. What matters is that you have enough credits to graduate -- if you take more one semester and less another, it doesn't matter.
