ECM -> Coverage -> MM PE?

Sup squad. Spent a few years in ECM, got promoted to associate, and have an opportunity to move to coverage internally (1st year associate). I'm making this transition to coverage because I realized later than most that I'm more interested in how businesses operate and make money than how they access the capital markets. I know I'm late in this realization but such is life.I know I won't be in the running for MF PE, but frankly, that's okay - I'm not out for the "prestige" or 99th percentile comp in my age group. I like finance, I've been told I'm a good employee, and I I'd like to try our private investing - I.e. PE, growth, or even (maybe) late stage VC.I know the tried and true path is analyst to PE, but I'm curious, how doable / and how to go about making the move to PE given my path? NYC based, and think I would target MM or LMM.Thanks all and happy 4th!

Edit: I am at a BB though not GS, JP, MS, or BofA (you can guess where lol)

That’s fair. When you say outreach / networking, you mean cold emailing folks on the buyside? I’ve always been good with people and know that networking is a two way, value add street (if done right), so it feels a bit disingenuous to cold e-mail folks about their fund - though maybe that’s the name of the game
