Economist Role

Hi, I am looking to get an MFE or a masters of economics and was wondering what kind of jobs are available with one of these degrees. I have heard the titles financial economist and economic strategist thrown around but do these positions require a PhD? Are you able to come into a bank as an economic strategist with an MA in economics?

Also, I have heard that an economics degree helps with getting a position at certain hedge funds. Could anybody comment on this?

Just a side note: no i am not looking to get one of these degrees in order to "improve" my chances of landing an IB job; i know that an MBA>MA/MFE for IB.

Thanks!

I'd go with the MFE degree. Higher earning potential immediately after you finish school! As far as jobs, you would really have to do your own research on that because there are a lot different career paths available for someone with a degree in econ. Fin Eng. is a bit more narrow but the skill set developed definitely gives you leverage but it would definitely be on the quant side
