Energy IB Boutique (Houston) or Biomed/pharmaceutical Hedge Fund (Dallas) for sophomore internship?
Transferring to a target Fall 17' out of Texas (think Stern, McIntire, Ross) as a Junior. I have offers at 2 places and I'm not sure which to pick. The IB internship definitely offers a more relevant skill set I feel. Goal is to work IBD on the Street in M&A group or TMT group.
Energy, no question.
PS no bias
Logically, pick IB if you want to end up in IB. Nonetheless, that biomed pharma gig sounds very interesting
Depends how boutique you're talking imo. If you don't want energy long-term then the HF makes a lot of sense.
IB w/o question. You'll be learning and working on actual deals / models / pitch-books. Who knows what you'll be doing at the hedge fund as an inexperienced college intern - most likely a whole lot of nothing.
The structure of IB on your resume as a college intern just sounds better, in my opinion. Having an internship at a hedgefund (unless it's a mega-fund) always makes me wonder - esp. if you're trying to get into banking after college. If you do the HF, banks will suspect you're more interested in that side of the world.
