Ever since Amaranth, all of a sudden you have energy trader wanabees coming out of the woodwork.

Avg salary is peanuts, but you rake in alot of dough as compensatio IF you put in enough effort and research and develop your own particular 'edge' in the market like Mr Hunter did with natural gas spreads. :P

Progression would also be solely based on your performance.

Unlike IB, trading lays alot more emphasis on individual performance than lets say number of deals done by the whole team etc.

Also, a quant background is really helpfull. What have you studied?
