Engineer with IB Interview

Hey Everyone,

I'm an engineering major at a T-20 school and I had interest in going into consulting, but got dinged from all of my top choices earlier in the fall (got some offers from some boutiques). I have been rethinking my career opportunities and decided to apply to some banks (even though I know their recruitment is essentially over). I got contacted by a top-tier bank about doing a phone interview, but I know absolutely nothing about finance. I do have a legitimate interest in going into IB, I just have limited knowledge of the industry. Do I have any chance of getting through the interview process? Will they expect less financial knowledge from me because of an engineering background?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry at all. I'm at a BB and we just brought on an analyst with an engineering background. From what I've noticed, the implication seems to be that if you come from an engineering background, finance should be relatively easy to pick up/master. I don't think they would necessarily expect less financial knowledge, it will most likely come down to your ability to express genuine interest in the industry/IB. Also, there are some great ib interview prep kits that can get you up to speed with basic accounting/valuation concepts.
