Evercore Comms & Digital Infra Europe

Hi monkeys, I have a chance of joining the Evercore Comms and Digital Infra team in Europe and wanted to get your views. Is the team successful and sustainable in its current form? They brought in the former CS team a couple of years ago and since then they have barely led any meaningful deals (apart from Swisscom and Vodafone Italy). The rest, I understand, have been mostly secondary or even tertiary roles and super small deals as well as deals originated by other parts of the firm (like capital structure advisory). Not much for a team of 20 people across Paris and London and with 2 SMDs and 2 MDs. How long can they operate like this before they need to cut fat? What are the analysts and associates doing? Producing 50-100 page pitch decks CS-style? Am I missing something?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the Evercore Comms and Digital Infra team in Europe seems to be facing challenges in establishing itself as a leading player. While they have managed to secure some notable deals like Swisscom and Vodafone Italy, the overall deal flow appears limited, with much of their work reportedly involving smaller deals, secondary or tertiary roles, and deals originated by other parts of the firm. This raises valid concerns about the sustainability of the team in its current form, especially given its size (20 people across Paris and London, including 2 SMDs and 2 MDs).

The situation you describe—analysts and associates potentially focusing on extensive pitch decks without significant deal activity—could indicate inefficiencies or a lack of strategic direction. If the team continues to struggle with meaningful deal flow, it might indeed face pressure to downsize or restructure.

However, it’s worth noting that Evercore has a strong reputation globally, particularly in M&A, and the firm has shown the ability to pivot and adapt in other regions and sectors. If the team can leverage the broader firm's resources and relationships, there may still be potential for growth. That said, joining this team might come with risks, especially if you're looking for robust deal experience and long-term stability.
