Evercore Consumer Retail - Thoughts?

Question

Wanted to get input on the C&R group at EVR in terms of deal flow, culture, type of deals, and exit opps. How does the group stack up vs. other BB & EB C&R groups?

most of the proceeding advice can be generalized so, the following goes for you and any other aspiring bankers reading this : they are all very strong groups. there was not a single group that had a "bad" culture. just different. it really comes down to your personality type. it's one of those intangibles that people try to speak to, but until you've actually experienced it... it won't sink in. just like the overarching cultures at different banks i.e. a senior banker from GS will be different than a senior banker from JPM. they will both be different from a senior banker at evercore.

the work was never too difficult, but there was a lot of learning to be had. even if you're able to get eight hours of sleep a night, you'll still be in the office for almost every waking hour on some busier weeks. it doesn't matter who you are, fifteen hour work days aren't easy. learning how to do a new task after you've put in twenty-eight hours of work since 9AM the previous day is no small feat.
there were also some days where I'd have a call at 9AM and have seven straight hours of intense, fast-paced work.

I felt there are a few flaws in your post that should be pointed out, granted I don't blame you because there are certain things you don't get to see in a 10 week summer internship, where everyone is all smiles to get you to come back.

Your point about groups not mattering for headhunter looks is inaccurate. You'll have a tougher time recruiting for certain roles out of the more niche groups, I've seen it happen with certain analysts firsthand. Why would a TMT growth fund hire an Oil & Gas banker, it would make no logical sense.

the group was awarded best C&R by "thedeal.com" last year - if that means anything? great group of people. deal flow is strong and only getting stronger as the newly hired partners continue to ramp the group up. you will work very hard in the group.
