NY intern and hearing from friends, Menlo Tech had a 100% return rate, heard they had their best intern class quality ever, kids were among the best in NY during training. Those kids got GRINDED this summer, I heard 100+ hour weeks, so retention might be tricky, since word on street a kid there is going to MBB and another kid got a few MF PE offer (idk how they recruited while working for so long everyday lol, impressive)

Might be a few more UMM PE analyst exits from that summer group too…

How many kids from the M&A/RX class got a MF analyst job?? Usually 10-15 but what about this year

As a HYPSW EVR analyst, have noticed that the top Stanford and Harvard kids no longer want to do banking first, even if at an Evercore or Goldman. Over the past 2-3 years Evercore has gotten the top Harvard and Stanford kid in their class but they’ve left to Bain Cap, Vista, Silver Lake after a summer. Wonder if EVR is going to even continue recruiting H/S kids if they can’t retain them

Heard there’re being tough with NY transfer this year, one kid got it from a regional office but that was a special case…

From what I know: No internal NY laterals, no FT interviewing this year. The reality is, nearly 100% offer rate, and in this environment most interns accepted. The NY M&A class is full.

If you want to go from any product or regional group to NY M&A, I would be very careful around "shopping" your the return offer internally (I guarantee your summer group knows about your lateral request especially if you talked to HR - the firm is smaller than you think). Yes, Evercore might seem very rigid at the intern level, but theres a ton more flexibility after even just 1 year at the firm.

Don't risk a) losing out on the additional early $10k signing, and arguably more importantly b) the goodwill of your group and the firm.

Just my two cents.

Crazy this is the official stance given that they allowed some other regional hires to make the switch when they first gave returns

Is it really zero? I've heard they are allowing a couple albeit way less than usual. I requested to lateral from a regional office and my VP and MD said they were in talks with HR (not that im being hopeful but my situation is about family health reasons. Id actually rather stay in the regional office cuz thats where i would prefer to live)

Not related but One of my friends in M&A told me the summer internship was so toxic and Brutal for hours they need to take a semester off to fully recuperate from the physical and mental abuse and are plannning to ditch finance all together…
