Exit Opps for Structured Equity Group in BB

Was wondering if anyone heard about the Structured Equity/Equity Derivatives groups? Pretty sure it's called ' Structured Equity Transaction Group (SETG) ' at Deutsche Bank / Structured Equity Financing at JPM // Structured Equity Group in Goldman etc.

From my understanding they focus on principle structured lending business for all kinds of institutions (PE/family office etc.) and corporates. Type of products includes equity-linked financing, Pre-IPO loans, fund finance, margin loan, derivatives trading etc.

Couldn't find much information online on the exits opps, was wondering specifically what are the typical exits opps and if shifts to buyside funds would be possible.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, structured equity groups at BBs, such as JPM's Structured Equity Financing or similar teams at Deutsche Bank, Barclays, and Goldman Sachs, focus on principal structured lending and equity-linked financing for institutions like PE firms, hedge funds, family offices, and corporates. Their work includes structuring and executing transactions like margin loans, fund financing, pre-IPO loans, and derivatives trading.

Exit Opportunities:

  1. Buyside Funds: Transitioning to private equity or hedge funds is possible, especially those with a focus on structured products or credit strategies. The skillset in structuring and executing complex financing deals is highly valued in these roles.
  2. Asset Management: Larger asset managers like PIMCO, Wellington, or MetLife IM, which deal in structured products, could be potential destinations.
  3. Specialized Hedge Funds: Credit-focused hedge funds such as GoldenTree, OakTree, or Millennium are known to value expertise in structured equity and derivatives.
  4. Corporate Finance Roles: The experience in equity-linked financing and derivatives could also lead to roles in corporate treasury or strategic finance teams.
  5. Lateral Moves within Banking: Shifting to other IB groups like Leveraged Finance or Restructuring is viable, depending on the bank and your network.

While the niche nature of structured equity roles might pigeonhole you to some extent, the specialized expertise you gain can make you a strong candidate for roles where such skills are in demand.
