F on transcript but 3.8 GPA.
Do banks care if you have an F on your transcript but have an otherwise good GPA? Yesterday I submitted an assignment worth 40% of my mark 5 minutes late for one of my courses, and after talking w my prof he said that he won't take any late submissions unless there's a medical emergency. Including the F, my GPA will work out to ~3.8 vs currently 3.9 but I am wondering if having the F will discount the 3.8.Currently a junior at a semi-target uni and have accepted an offer for IB SA2022 at a Tier 2 BB (BarCap/CS/BAML). Curious as to if the F could affect my return offer chances or other opportunities, considering my GPA is still high and I'll have IBD experience

Rare that banks even look at and scrutinize the details of your transcript. Don’t worry about it. You should be fine.
You should be fine but that Professor sounds like an ass
All solid points. Back in my day of gaming the system...
1) Try to get the professor to put it in an email, then bring that email to a walk-in clinic. Be reasonably polite and just be straight up when it's 1 on 1 with the doctor if they seem cool. This worked like 50% of the time in my undergrad. Also helps if the doctor knows you're not a moron so emphasize that you have a stellar GPA, you've been wronged, you were considering going to med school and this is heart breaking.
2) Go to your academic board ("Dean of students" is the title you're looking for), ask them for help. Recognize it was a few minutes late, and that this is an extremely harsh punishment, (and ideally include that you had medical note). Emphasize how this will follow your applications to top tier institutions. Again emphasize that you have an otherwise excellent academic record. They'll have a chat with the prof, usually.
Good luck man. And just know that you are going to make 3x what this professor makes. Fuck power tripping people.
Appreciate the advice mate, realizing this F is definitely worth contesting so gonna try what you said
It's not an overtly harsh punishment. Professors have syllabi that are meant to be read. Grading policy regarding late assignments is known from day 1. At the end of the day OP procrastinated the assignment too far out, and is now facing the consequences of his reckless decision.
I disagree, I'm siding with the professor here.
Deadlines are deadlines and with the case of an assignment worth 40% OP would have known well in advance the deadline for this assignment, if it was not already blatantly written on the syllabus from day 1. OP clearly procrastinated to the last second, and in making a reckless decision, he pays the price for this move.
Regarding your effort claim, he could have just submitted drafts of the assignment and updated those drafts, so in case technical difficulties arose or something happened last minute, he'd be graded for the effort he'd put in before the deadline passed.
Yeah, the F will follow him but such is life. He made a mistake that was a learning experience and I'm sure he'll make sure not to repeat again.
You sound like quite literally, the last person I would want to talk to at a party.
Most Wall Street jobs do not ask for transcripts after entry level analyst role. So no this will not haunt OP. The people in HR/Recruiting are also not properly trained to scrutinize a transcript properly. They just go off of GPA. After your first job they do not even check your GPA. I have never had my GPA in my years on Wall Street.
You were having a mental health crisis that’s why you didn’t turn it in on time.
He was overwhelmed by the coronavirus pandemic and the new Omicron outbreak
Even better if you can have a breakdown in their office just to show how unstable you are
Either way you will be fine but I would be fight this situation to the death
What is there to fight? OP knew the grading policy (which is clearly outlined in the syllabus from day 1), knew the deadline of the assignment in advance, and chose to be reckless and waited until the last second to complete his assignment. Now he reaps the consequences of his decision.

why are you such a bootlicker
Dude stop just throwing in random italics into your bullshit posts, so cringe
i once had a shit-head professor who gave me an F on my final exam because I didn't put my pencil down when he said to pencils down at the end of the exam, and I got an F on the exam automatically. Luckily it was a P/NP class, so I just ended up getting a NP and contested it. I eventually won the case in front of the academic body because it was unnecessary and excessive on the professor's part
No, it won’t.
It absolutely won't affect you, banks will not really look at your transcript and if they do they are just verifying your GPA matches what you said, not looking for details about certain classes. Certainly will have 0 bearing on return offer.
That said I would absolutely fight this, all the way up to the dean, even if you have to say you were having a mental health crisis. Totally get OP should have turned it in, but the professor should dock points rather than refuse to accept anything even a minute late.
You're advocating for the OP to lie to the dean to get out of this?
All that matters is rising to the top no matter how much manipulation, lies, and unethical actions are required
Dude they don’t give a fuck. Half the banks don’t even ask for a transcript 💀💀💀
100% agree. So cringe.
And as a PE AN1 how many times have you cancelled dates or events with friends just to change the font color and size on a deck no one is going to look at?
No one cares about GPA past resume submission, GPA requirements are there to thin the herd and nothing more. They'll get your transcripts to verify your GPA and that's pretty much it.
I had an incident in college where I got an exception from a TA for a final project because I had to go to nationals for my sport, and she was fine with it as I was representing the university. I get back and submit it. She has some visa issue (she was from China), and has to go home. This was in the early internet days, and you had to hand the large file for this class on a drive. She never passed it on to the professor, and I got a zero on the final. I went from an A to a D in the class. Review board would not consider it because they couldn’t contact the TA. That said, it never came up in job applications, and I started my career at GS.
There’s no way you can’t go to an advisor and get that F changed to a C or something.
Tough shit my guy. Hopefully you learned your lesson. This is the real world. Nobody gives a fuck about excuses; you either get the job done or you don't.
Not sure when BAML got dropped to a t2 BB but regardless no it doesn’t matter.
