FIG Verticals --> PE
I'm very interested in moving on to PE after my 2 years in a BB IBD FIG analyst role where I'll starting soon.
Given that FIG groups work with various verticals, and assuming I'd be able to request specific work within one of those verticals, which one should I focus on if I'm interested in a non-FIG PE gig? I've heard that financial tech would be a good option in this case. I'd also like to know if that answer changes for a FIG-focused PE role, as I am not 100% decided yet. Is it better to get a holistic experience, or should I be targeting a smaller selection of the verticals? Why?
Thanks!
Fintech M&A is the way to go. Anything else and you're pigeonholing yourself.
Thanks for the reply. Could you expand a bit on why?
fintech, Asset Management. though i've always heard if you're at GS it doesn't really matter and you don't get pidgeon-holed
Thank you for the reply as well. I'll ask the same: why is that so?
1) because it's standard ebitda valuation 2) because GS is GS
So in the FinTech and Asset Management Verticals the valuation closely resembles standard company valuation which makes for better PE exit pops?

I'm at a non-GS BB covering FIG. What vertical is easiest for PE recruiting for FIG focused funds? Spec Fin is really popular now a days but it doesn't really have a lot of M&A activity.
