Finance Major=Technical Focus in Interview?
So I've pretty much heard two different thoughts on this:
1) You study finance, so they're going to grill you on technicals to see how well you learned
2) They don't focus on technicals and ask more fit because they assume you should and do already know it.
Anyone with interview experience, what're your thoughts on this?
Also, I don't need to be told that I should be equally focused on each and that I need to take advantage of the interview opportunity. I know that. I'm just curious.
Thanks all
for legit positions they will grill you. for shit-tier positions they will probably assume you know it.
I would assume it is either the same or more on technicals. I really doubt anyone would "just assume you know it."
It depends on the interviewer and can go either way. Be prepared for tough technicals and you can't go wrong.
50/50 in my experience.
But it comes down to the interviewer. Point is. be 100% ready for both.
For firms that have smaller analyst programs (i.e. boutiques) -- if you say you know finance or accounting on your resume, these firms will assume that you have a strong understanding of basic corporate finance, accounting, and valuation methodologies and will look to confirm that.
Also -- fit and technicals are equally important. Make sure to know your story and have it down to the point you can tell it in 2-3 minutes and also weave in there why banking is a good next step for you.
