Going into finance/consulting just to pay for plastic surgery?

I’m a freshman in college and I feel like my whole early career is basically getting shaped around money. Though at this point I’m completely demotivated and have lost all my passions, I am still committed to trying for IB or MBB (despite having no legitimate interest in either of them). I do not care about prestige and I do not see myself staying in these fields long term. The plan is to grind for a few years, make as much money as possible early on, then switch to something more chill and lower paying later. I am not materialistic and I do not need much to be satisfied long term, so I am fine making less after my 20s.

I come from a middle class family. My parents help with school and basics, but anything beyond that is on me.

I’ve been depressed for a long time and it’s been pretty bad at times. Got bullied a lot since middle school and it completely destroyed my confidence and sense of happiness. Most days I’m just unhappy, low energy, no confidence, no sex drive, and pretty disconnected from people.

Thus, the main goal in life for me in the near term is getting a few cosmetic procedures done. They are the priority in my life right now. Total cost will probably be $50k+. My mom is willing to front a portion of the money (around $10K) while I am still in school, and I will pay her back once I am working full time around 22 to 23.

It feels kind of fucked that I am picking one of the most stressful career paths possible just to pay for this, but I also do not see another realistic way to clear that kind of money fast without dragging this out for years. If you have done IB or MBB and went in with a purely transactional mindset, curious how that played out for you.

Also if you’re truly that hideous just know that it’ll be fixed within a few years and have that as a motivator for the work you’ll do during the process.

A few things to consider:

  1. Plastic surgery is just a band aid on a 6 inch deep gash. You'll just end up wanting to put more band aids on it (more plastic surgeries) because you will still fundamentally believe everything that underpins what you've just told us.
  2. Earlier you said going to the gym can't save you. I disagree. Low body fat and physical fitness does wonders for people's looks, confidence etc. I was ugly, people would ask me if I was going to get plastic surgery when I was older to "fix" certain things about me. I always said no but goddamn if I didn't consider it. Instead I went to the gym. I got a fucking haircut. I learned how to look after my hair. I learned how to look after my skin (nothing crazy but more than I was doing). I found an interest, any interest and locked in on it. I'd say out of everything the gym and haircare probably were the highest leverage activities there. It doesn't have to be gym either, but something that keeps you fit and goal oriented.
  3. Ironically though IB or the like could either be very good for you or very bad for you. On the very good side, you'll have some sort of purpose and distraction from whatever you're going through. This could end up really resonating with you. On the other hand side, it is probably very hard to keep an already fragile mental health in check while sleep deprived, nutrient deprived, constantly being criticised etc. which is what can come with being a junior in these jobs.

Gynecomastia surgery? and you don't think the gym/getting lean will help? This sounds like you're just going to be chasing the next surgery because you have underlying body image issues.

This is in the same category of hoarders- they feel so unstable that they can't bear the risk of throwing something away- they feel like they just might need another vacuum even though they have 10. Or girls who think they are fat and keep trying to lose weight even though they look like a skeleton. If you don't address the underlying issue you will never reach a destination. You're going to turn into Jocelyn Wildenstein, and one day you'll look at yourself in the mirror and realize there is no going back.

Go to the gym, bro. Beyond the boost to your looks, your confidence will grow as you accomplish your goals. It literally releases confidence building hormones. You'll carry yourself more confidently when you realize people can't push you around. Things won't stress you as much. You'll sleep better.

I doubt it. Why would you skull-mog yourself with surgery when you can naturalmaxx by hard-mewing, chewing mastic till masseter hypertrophy kicks in, fixing craniofacial posture, nasal-breathing 24/7, de-bloatmaxxing to avoid moonface, and angle-fraud your gonial flare under hunter lighting? Trimax implants are just surgery-cope for people who won’t discipline-maxx.

This post sounds very sad. And I’m sorry that you’ve been bullied your entire life to where your soul purpose in work or anything is to get plastic surgery. What surgeries are you pursuing for $50,000?

This career is certainly able to provide you the opportunity to achieve that within a couple years if you live frugally.

But I’m most interested in what surgeries you’re seeking for $50,000

Not much ROI with 50K so idk what this kid is planning, you need like $200k for double LL + eye color lightening + jaw implants + rhino + hair transplant to materially change outcomes for someone who describes themselves like the poster (unsavable).

Really hope there becomes advances in height extension therapy where it becomes cheaper, less painful and lower risk. At 5"7 if I had a few more inches would ascend. Its not terrible where you should KYS i.e. 5"5, but its definitely a negative and you need to compensate with other good stats

Not to sound like an ass but if you’re as chopped as you say you are (to the point of needing an entire facial reconstruction) - don’t you think it’d be hard to land a front office seat?

Obviously you will never be told you’re rejected because of that but if you are able to land this client-facing job, you have to realize you look “normal” enough to not NEED this surgery and it’s all in your head (maybe fixing your nose so you can breath, but the rest sounds truly extensive for no reason).

So I’d say this: plan the nose fixing surgery, hit the gym and put on 20 pounds of muscle. Eat clean. Clear your face up if you have acne. Land a full time IB gig. If you can land one I hate to tell you but you’re being dramatic about your looks and surgery WILL NOT fix it.

Personally, I say don’t touch your face until you’re 25, you dont even know what your grown man face is going to look like, ridiculous to start chopping your body up now.
