finding a school year internship in IB
Has anyone ever start an internship over the school year and gotten really good experience in IB? I'm trying to get my foot in the door in IB over the school year. But it seems to me like no place is hiring. Also, the school year positions that are open seem to all entail doing some sort of brainless tasks, b/c they are unwilling to train a part time intern over the school year. Anyone in the same boat and want to share experience? Anyone who's done a good school year internship and want to share?
What may seem like a meaningless task may be very beneficial on a macro level. It is tough to wrap your head around what exactly bankers do from school alone. I would jump on any IB job you can to build your resume and understanding of the field.

I had an IB internship during all of last year and learned a lot. You need to understand that no matter the size of the bank, you will be an intern and as a result you will be doing intern tasks. You can't expect to build models right away. If you are good and are well liked, you will see more meaningful work come your way.
I would like to note, doing an IB internship during the year can get stressful. Many times I would be asked to come in the office on unscheduled work days because of deadlines that needed to be met. If you are good with stress and time management then you should not have a problem. What you want to do is leverage the experience you get to find a legit shop.
Like I said, that's what I did last year. Because of the internship I was able to intern at a well known Merchant Bank in Los Angeles this summer, resulting in a FT offer.
What I recommend going on your school's career site and searching for IB's there. You should also contact alumini and lastly cold call shops. If worse comes to worse you can offer your service for free. Remember at this point, experience is more important. If you need help or have qt's feel free to pm me.
