What may seem like a meaningless task may be very beneficial on a macro level. It is tough to wrap your head around what exactly bankers do from school alone. I would jump on any IB job you can to build your resume and understanding of the field.

I had an IB internship during all of last year and learned a lot. You need to understand that no matter the size of the bank, you will be an intern and as a result you will be doing intern tasks. You can't expect to build models right away. If you are good and are well liked, you will see more meaningful work come your way.

I would like to note, doing an IB internship during the year can get stressful. Many times I would be asked to come in the office on unscheduled work days because of deadlines that needed to be met. If you are good with stress and time management then you should not have a problem. What you want to do is leverage the experience you get to find a legit shop.

Like I said, that's what I did last year. Because of the internship I was able to intern at a well known Merchant Bank in Los Angeles this summer, resulting in a FT offer.

What I recommend going on your school's career site and searching for IB's there. You should also contact alumini and lastly cold call shops.
