Finding comparable companies

As part of an assignment during my internship, I need to find companies that are comparable, in certain characteristics, to a list of companies that my boss gave me. Do you know if there is any database that could help with this, perhaps even automate it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have access to pretty much any database you can think of.

Is there any way to upload a list of companies or some code representing them and get an output of companies that are matched in certain characteristics for each company in the original list or is it just a manual process? The reason I'm asking is because I have to find comparable companies for 200 companies which would take a very long time manually.

If you go to the 10k for each company there will be a section on competition that will give a detailed list of competitors by segment. Or if you go to bloomberg/capIQ you can pull up the quick comps and weed out the bad ones that they pre-select for you

Just go on bloomberg and use the comps function. You can also download some broker reports and use the comps they are using there. The you can look for comps of you comps if you need to extend the list.

I'm grateful that I have two middle fingers, I only wish I had more.

Bloomberg is (Ticker) (US Equity) (RV) (Enter) and then at the bottom is shows the pre selected comp group
