Firm Reputation and Execution Quality

I've met a lot of bankers from all kinds of firms - BBs, MM, boutiques, elite boutiques and restructuring shops. I worked with them and across from them on deals.

For those of you who deal with bankers from different firms (PE folks I'm sure will be in this category as well as lawyers, accountants, etc.), in your opinion, what is the correlation between the reputation of their firm and the quality of execution, advice and general success rates?

Personally, I've found that this correlation does not always exist, in fact, there are plenty of bankers from "2nd tier" banks who provide better advice, better execution and success rates, and more talented than bankers from "top" banks.

This forum is all about prestige and the brand name, especially for you college seniors now deciding on jobs. Just something to think about- it's more about the people you work with and learn from than the brand name.

To all you more seasoned monkeys, feel free to share your thoughts.
