FMVA?
Hi there, I am wondering about your take on FMVA certification. Reckon it will tick in my favour if i have it on my resume? I am a business undergrad, final year, and seeking a job(hopefully in the finance sector) until i get to do my masters in Finance. Eventually want to end up in IB. Would recruiters really bother about the FMVA certification on my resume?? Any sort of input will be appreciated
I have taken the FMVA certification after getting an ER full-time offer when moving from stock exchange to the market.
As from will the people in industry be impressed by that certification? Certainly not, it is just a piece of paper. Is it valuable for its price (500 USD)? Definitely.
The FMVA certification allowed me to polish my accounting skills, DCF modeling skills, taught my how to do sensitivity analysis, and improved my Excel and Powerpoint knowledge a lot. By the end of the certification, you will have completed one or two case studies where you will be building DCF and SOTP models from scratch.
Attempt to search for one or two companies that interest you, get their 10Ks, other necessary information, make the models, and complete the pitches for them. Print out and bring that to your interview and then walk the interviewer through this. If asked where you have learned to do that, you may mention that FMVA certification you have done.
Hope this was helpful.
