Following up After 1st Round
I recently took my 1st round at a MM firm. It’s been exactly a week and I haven’t heard anything. I believe the interview went well and was curious if there is an etiquette in reaching out to interviewers. The format of the interview was a panel of two people interviewing me.
Since it’s been a week, is it appropriate to reach out to interviewers, or should I wait longer? If so, should I reach out to both interviewers, or only the one individual that responded to my thank you email? Thank you for your advice!
Bump in a similar boat keep rethinking every part of the conversation and if I fuc up somewhere
Dont reach out - they will have already spoken to HR about your interview feedback by now and saying thank you after 1 week as opposed to within 24 hours just screams that you’re anxious. Just wait, they are still probably interviewing/deciding.
I already sent thank you emails couple hours after interview last week. I was referring to post interview, do you still think it’s a bad idea?
Ah apologies - misread the latter part of your post. I still wouldn’t reach out, just sit tight.
So when do you know it's time to move on? Read a bunch of these threads from previous years, and the consensus is all over the place, from finding out within 48 hours to waiting 3-4 weeks. I think Superdays are relatively quick, but what about the rest of the rounds? Also saw a few talking about if you're the top pick you're back immediately versus longer
I agree with above, confused about timeline and etiquette with this. For me specifically, this was an off-cycle FT interview, not a SA interview. So I don’t know if it would be any different.
.
Personally, I've always thought reaching out after an interview is a bit brown-nosy. Think about it from their perspective, they either liked you or didn't, and if you send an email saying "Mr. interviewer thank you so so much for your time", it will have no material impact on your candidacy. It doesn't show initiative, it just shows you're desperate for the job.
I know it can be infuriating getting pulled around by these firms during the interview process, it sucks, but just be patient. They will make a decision internally and reach back out, or not, regardless of if you send an email to them after the interview or not.
The only reason you should ever reach out to the firm after an interview is if you have competing offers with a timeline. Then you reach out to HR not the interviewers.
Also no one responds to these thank you emails. They have more important things to do.
