Fordham Gabelli Global Business Honors Program for Free
I got accepted to Gabelli in their Global Business Honors Program. I also got a full scholarship. I have great stats (1550 SAT and straight As) and expect to get into a couple of highly ranked schools. However, the Gabelli honors program sounds cool (only 20 students each year) and free college is awesome. Should I seriously consider this or just go to a higher ranked school and suck up the $50k or so in tuition each year (my parents can afford that). Does the honors program help at all in job placement? Thanks.
I was in the same position as you. I chose Fordham and couldn’t be happier. Being at Fordham allows students to intern in Manhattan year-round, giving you an edge over students from other schools. Personally, I’ve interned in IB and been able to see deals from pitch to close rather than a traditional 10-week summer program. Also, a lot of BB’s take at least a few Fordham kids each year. What are the other schools?
This is important. If you get into ivies, don’t go to Fordham; but if you’re other choices are like ND, BC, NYU, etc. I’d pick Fordham for free any day.
Not sure what other schools as I am waiting for decisions. However, I am not simply applying to colleges because they are highly ranked. I want to be in a large city at a smaller school (under 10k undergrads). Based on that, most ivies are out (Dart, Brown, Cornell, Yale etc.) and all large colleges are out (ND, Mich). Also, NYU just seems like a bad college experience from what I have heard. Obviously, if I get into Harvard or UPenn I would go their. Unclear though for other schools like Georgetown or BC. Also, seems like Fordham would be at least equivalent if not better than schools like Emory. Hard to ignore a $200k savings. Also, love that Fordham is in the city and the GBHP is so specialized and small.
Honestly, I don't see Fordham impressing that many people. That being said, saving $200,000+ in tuition might be worth the trade-off.
I work in PE and I have seen a bunch of guys from Fordham on the street. Its a well respected school. Nothing to scoff at.
its an ok school but not really "respected". can guarantee that 95 percent of americans have not heard of it.

The honors program definitely helps with job placement. I mentor a girl who's in that program and she's done well in regards to recruiting with selective roles on the sell / buyside. I didn't attend Fordham, so my knowledge is limited to her experience, but from what I've seen it's helped her a lot.
In terms of free college, here's where I'm conflicted. It really depends on where else you've been accepted. If it's between Fordham Honors and say, Tulane, I'd go with Fordham. However, if your alternatives are Dartmouth, Cal, Stanford, Michigan, etc. and your parents can afford paying for tuition, I'd go with one of those other schools. My point being, if there's a significant difference in ranking, go with the much higher ranked school, unless you feel like Fordham is a better fit culturally.
Clearly you're a smart kid, so wherever you go you will excel -- it's more of a function of what type of students do you want to be around. The bench at a much higher ranked school will be deeper in regards to the number of hungry / driven / motivated students, however you'll likely be able to find a similar caliber of student at Fordham, especially in a selective program geared toward people from your background. For context, I went to a heavy non-target due to financial reasons (among others) and landed at a BB bank in IB.
