Freshman Internship Help
Hey guys, I'm new here and trying to get started off.
I'm currently a freshman at a non-target, but looking to get ahead this summer with an internship.
I've read that a lot of you suggest a PWM Internship. I know there are a lot of Merill Lynch PWM Branches in my area - but some seem to think that these wouldn't give me as much experience. If I choose to try and pursue a PWM Internship, what bank would be the most optimal to land at this summer?
Also, what internships could I try to pursue besides PWM? Are there any other places that would be better in terms of experience and on my resume?
Would it be worth trying to get an internship at a regional investment bank? And if so, what are regional IBs and where can I find them in my area?
Basically, just trying to get an understanding of the best --> worst places I could try to intern this summer, the prospects of getting them, and how to find go about getting them? Where should I prioritize my efforts and how?
Thanks so much, I really appreciate the help and I'm excited to join this community and learn from you all.
Everything you mentioned is fine but, maybe, also look into commercial banking.
Don't stress over it too much. Just make sure you do something constructive over the summer.
True, don't stress too much about your freshman summer. I made VBA spreadsheets for some random small business, completely unrelated to finance
Agree with the above comments but it's good to be ahead of the game since you're at a non-target. Having an IB internship this past summer after my freshman year made it a lot easier to network because they saw I was actually interested/passionate. where is ur school located? big city, middle of nowhere?
Located about 45 minutes away from NYC.
Do you go to a target, how did you get your IB Internship? Was it at a regional IB?
Thanks
I was at a non-target but transferred into a target. PM me, i have some suggestions for ur situation
Search fund internships are good and usually not too difficult to get depending on your area.
Respect the grind but like everyone else said don't stress it too much.
My search fund internship changed the game for me. Got me multiple superdays, was having no luck before the internship. Find a search fund.
So in your case, how did you find this particular search fund and how’d you pursue the internship? I tried PMing you but for some reason I couldn’t get it through
Dude, enjoy your summer! Take your summer off. Intern summer after sophomore year
Go for a boutique IB or PE search fund internship and it will set you up for recruiting nicely.
Any advice on how to acquire these?
Or more importantly, what boutiques should I focus on? I don’t wanna waste my time pursuing banks that won’t consider me, right?
Thanks so much
Shoot me a PM!
PM me if you're interested in a longer discussion about this. I also went to a non-target in the NYC area and snagged my first internship in PWM. You are definitely asking all the right questions here. Currently work in AM.
