Freshman resume building tips for recruiting
I’m an incoming freshman trying to build a resume for recruiting for clubs and for applying for internships for first year. What should I list? Like all my highschool activities and stuff also is there any free certifications that would be recommended the help boost the resume a little any advice is greatly appreciated thanks.
To build a strong freshman resume for recruiting, clubs, and internships, here’s what you should focus on:
1. Include High School Activities (Initially)
Since you're just starting college, it's perfectly fine to list relevant high school activities. Highlight: - Leadership roles (e.g., president of a club, team captain). - Academic achievements (e.g., honor societies, awards, high GPA). - Extracurriculars that demonstrate teamwork, initiative, or unique skills (e.g., debate team, sports, volunteering). - Work experience or internships, even if unrelated to finance.
As you gain college experience, gradually replace high school activities with college achievements.
2. Focus on Certifications
Free certifications can add value to your resume and show initiative. Consider: - Wall Street Prep or WSO free resources (if available). - Excel certifications (e.g., Microsoft Excel for Beginners on LinkedIn Learning or Coursera). - Financial modeling basics (some platforms offer free introductory courses). - Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) (often free through your school). - Google Analytics or Data Studio (if interested in data-related roles).
3. Join Clubs and Organizations
4. Build a Strong Resume Format
5. Develop Key Skills
6. Network and Seek Opportunities
7. Stay Informed
By following these steps, you’ll build a resume that stands out and positions you well for recruiting opportunities. Good luck!
