From Big 4 Tax to MSF to Investment Banking Analyst

Hi All,

So I am looking to switch careers to Investment banking and get a job preferably in the NYC area. I am currently in the hedge fund and private equity tax group at a Big 4 in NYC. 2nd year Associate to be exact.

I just got admitted to do an MSF program at Baruch College. I decided to attend Baruch specifically because of the course schedule, low tuition and the ability to still be working full time with my current firm while taking classes full time (Trust me, this is sorted out already and there is no conflict here).

Undergraduate wise, I got a Bsc in Finance from a liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere, but hey I still got a job at a Big 4 and passed the CPA and CFA Level I exams already!. Have prior trading experience and couple of internships in equity + fixed income research at a small investment firm in NYC. I applied but didn't get a job offer in IB when I graduated.

I would like to get advice on what to do now to land an investment banking position after I graduate from my MSF. Insights on even my chances of getting a job in IB would be great.

I am fine joining either a new analyst or associate position from any of the banks, BB or mid size. And I would prefer to work in the NYC area. CT maybe.

Thanks all!
