FT AN1 Deferral?
Has anyone seen an incoming FT analyst defer their offer by a year? Have a great opportunity with a startup that I cant pass up but would want to defer my offer at a BB for a year. Any suggestions?

Yes, had a few upperclassmen delay starting FT by 1-2 years to pursue Master's degree, sort out work visas, family issues, military, etc. Really depends on how flexible ur bank/HR team is tho.
I've seen people have their offers rescinded. Most start-ups fail, so yes actually, you CAN pass up the offer.
In this environment, I don’t think you have the luxury of being able to ask that question if I am being honest. With layoffs happening across the street, they could just replace you with someone who is willing to start immediately. I would be careful asking something like this.

Lmfao deferring for a master and working at a startup are opposite ends of the spectrum. Wouldn’t be surprised if the firm viewed it as declining the offer and blacklisting going forward.
Wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t defer in current environment, not to mention some scar tissue from past deferral analysts given spotty performance once they join up. Tough situation given your opportunity, but would suggest you either commit to banking or start up. Still worth asking if the bank would consider it though.
Lol that is not deferring, that is called reneging and taking a different offer. Stop being and sugar coating
