FT Lateraling Dilemma

How does one go about applying to GS' New Analyst program (and JPM's FT for that matter) a year in advance?I'm a graduate who just started work at LMM boutique and am considering lateraling 6-12 months down the line to another group that personally brings more interest. How should I position myself for these programs a year in advance with no real deal xp under my belt yet? Thanks.
