Full time offer deferral to travel - advice
I am an incoming first year analyst in London for a top EB/BB firm. I have accepted my full-time offer for 2026 after converting my summer internship.
I am happy with my offer and I am looking forward to joining the firm. However it has always been a dream of mine to travel.
I am considering asking HR to defer my offer to 2027. Has anyone out there seen this happen before? Is this acceptable or will it be looked down upon / hurt my reputation before I have even started?
If it came to choosing between the two I would choose the job offer, but any advice is appreciated.

No harm in asking. I'd personally have no qualms, you won't get complete freedom like this for a while so worth taking a punt. Likely you may have to be flexible, instead of a year deferral, it may only be 6 months. I have friends who were originally meant to start in summer, but ended up getting asked to start in Feb / April. So it really depends on the team but it is quite common for deferrals to be accepted.
