Full time recruting mixers

Hi everyone, I am a rising junior at a target school. I noticed that a lot of BB banks come to campus in the fall (Sep-Oct) for mixers and the career fair for full time positions, and again in the winter(Jan-Feb) for summer internship positions. I've read hundreds of posts already on the importance of chatting and following up with these people at the events, but do you think as a rising junior hoping for an internship, going to these full-time recruiting events makes sense? I'd like to show initiatives and build contacts, but I'm not sure if this is going across the line.... I'd like to hear what you guys think. Thanks!

You should definitely go. At a minimum you'll get more information early about the different banks and may begin to get a feel for which banks might be more interesting to you and why, something you'd want to communicate in interviews, conversations with people from that bank.

As you already know, you might also connect with one or more people from these banks who can be helpful to your chances in the recruiting process. The IDEAL person to target is the man/woman in charge of recruiting at your school. The second ideal contact to make is the most senior person at the event. Junior level people are primarily valuable as sources of information about their jobs, but can have some influence on the lead recruiters when they share their comments with the lead recruiter for your school ("I spent some time talking to John Doe and was impressed by ...). Listen carefully when they make their introductions so you know who to try and spend time with.

There are two ways to make a favorable impression: establish a good personal connection through a memorable conversation (common interests, you listened raptly and asked questions as they talked about their hobbies/glory days from school) or asking intelligent questions about the business. Here are some quick thoughts on some do's and don'ts for the latter approach:

If you do make a connection with one of the recruiters, make sure to follow-up.
