Literally nobody gives a fuck you work in IB other than douchey finance bros; mentioning your job might be the reason women aren't giving you attention lmao

Before I got into IB, I remember seeing 3 young guys in their early 20s also (probably analysts) at Mr Purple in NY staring at their phones sitting by the pool with a bottle wearing vests and deal sleds and not talking to any women (or even anyone). Don't be those guys. Be the guy by the bar with just a regular beer that is there in regular clothes and talks to everyone. I went out alone all the time, and had a good night (sometimes took someone home).

Even if its a group of dudes - 90% of the time, most people will hear you out vs just shut you out. Just say, "hey where you guys all coming from?" This opens up to a variety of answers. Some are visiting from out of town, some are coming back from a sports game, some just left another bar, or some are coworkers. Listen and ask questions.

Women pick up on the energy if you're a friendly and sociable guy that people are talking to, and the bonus is you sort of practice "cold-approaching" strangers in general.

Women analyze the room and will see you talking to various groups of people - which confirms you as "not weird" in their brain. Soon 1 or 2 lock eyes with you - which is your queue to just walk over and be chill about it. Don't use some corny 1-liner, just literally talk about anything else and only bring up work if someone asks.

If you aren't able to connect with anyone anyone at a bar, just write it off as not a good vibe there and just leave and go to another bar and rinse/repeat. Nobody will remember you unless you have bring up extremely polarizing opinions.
