Yes. Easy and quick banana point.
I used gmail over my schools.
People use all sorts of providers -- gmail, verizon, comcast, aol, etc. As long as you aren't [email protected] or some equivalent, none of that matters.

Yes, I use gmail over my school's .edu because it is a better email system, it is actually compatible with my phone, and it is not going to stop working when I graduate.
I've always used Gmail
Definitely Gmail... Always.
Yes, as long as it isn't [email protected]
[email protected] or [email protected] -- anything else is an automatic ding.
PLEASE tell me this is sarcasm....is [email protected] ok, e.g. [email protected]?
My "first.last" may be available elsewhere, but surely that's not worth sacrificing the awesomeness of gmail?
Bump, is [email protected] ok? E.g. [email protected].
As jack said, having an appropriate gmail is very important. If you don't already have something along the first.last last.first firstinitial.last or the same with an _ then go get it now. I have had my name since gmail was in a closed beta and it has been useful for years and will be for years to come.
My name got taken up on Gmail which sucks, so I went with inbox.com which isn't well known but hey.
Gotta love Gmail. I actually forward my school email to Gmail, so I get a format like: [email protected] on behalf of [email protected].
Some schools started outsourcing their webmails to Gmail, if I remember correctly..
Absolutely correct, my school is in the process of transitioning. Niiiiice.
I know a few that migrated to a microsoft live system as well...
For some reason, I feel that the Microsoft Live email accounts are more professional (although less intuitive and worse user-interface) than GMail.
Set up a gmail, hook it up to outlook = win
Pretty much anything that resembles your name is completely acceptable.
Awesome, thanks CompBanker. I guess I'll just keep [email protected].
