People use all sorts of providers -- gmail, verizon, comcast, aol, etc. As long as you aren't [email protected] or some equivalent, none of that matters.

As jack said, having an appropriate gmail is very important. If you don't already have something along the first.last last.first firstinitial.last or the same with an _ then go get it now. I have had my name since gmail was in a closed beta and it has been useful for years and will be for years to come.
