Career Resources
Regarding PE, the elite PE shops may follow the ultra-structured recruitment process; however, I find that many PE firms do not. I wouldn't worry about "fitting into the mold" because of your pre-MBA experience.
Biggest concern about moving into a smaller shop is that you may lose your "brand name". Coming out of a BB makes you highly marketable and provides credibility (not to say that you deserve it, but nonetheless the mere perception will open doors for you).
That said, this is obviously a person decision.
Thanks for the considerations. Given I am set on living in South Florida long term, I am not sure whether waiting more time to make my move and stay at a BB can be a smart way to do it. In other words, after how many years at a BB you can leave without leaving behind the perception that you mention?
