Group Placement At JPM NYC

I'm going to be an incoming SA at JP Morgan NYC next summer and was looking for any insight about group placement. Other than M&A and HC, which groups are the most competitive and what does the process for placing into those groups look like? Would appreciate any advice or insight. Thank you!

The top groups are M&A, HC, M&C, and industrials in that order. Group placement process will vary slightly every year based on who each group selects as their intern sponsors, the people who will be in charge of the internship program. Basically you speak to to people in the group; they rank you 1, 0, or -1 to the intern sponsors; the intern sponsors collect all the feedback and force rank all candidates they spoke to; you force rank all the groups available; and then HR will play matchmaking

+1 to this. You should network with all of the groups, even the ones further down your list as the top groups are very competitive.

Also worth looking into what schools each group tends to pull from. If 9/10 of their analysts every year are from target schools and you go to a non-target, you should be networking heavily with your 3rd, 4th, 5th choice etc. Lots of threads on here every year about people who thought they knocked it out of the park networking with the top 3 groups and no one else, but got their lowest group on placement.
