GS really rules the world, huh?

Gotcha.

Before I dive into this post I want to give a disclaimer that I'm pretty new to finance and the networking game.

I know the best way to get a shot of getting a placement at a BB or MM is to play the numbers game (if you have no close connections) and pretty much spam emails and getting on the phone with people within the firm you want to work for. Since I'm still new to this, I wonder what the "best practices" are for phone calls in terms of etiquette, tone of voice, proper questions to ask, what to expect, etc. I'm a rising senior preferably looking for a job once I graduate, so I know I'm REALLY late to the game; even a shitty job that's tangentially related will get the ball rolling.

As an aside, I want to pursue AM but since the IB forum is more active I figured that I'd post here. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Networking calls should last 15 minutes at most. This is how I would look at it:

1 min for you to introduce yourself

1 min for you to get to know their background a bit

1 min for you to outline your interest in their firm and IB in general

5 questions each taking about 2 minutes. I'd usually ask about deal teams, deal sizes, coverage, structure and industry exposure

1.5 mins at the end to ask about next steps for the recruitment process and if they can refer you

0.5 mins to thank them for their time and end the call
