Hardo analysts

If you know how to be a normal person and are not a huge hardo then you can skip this but for anyone not in that camp…

Can you guys chill out? I’m already seeing some of my now 2nd year analysts slapping around the 1st years with unnecessary work and pressuring them into working long hours without a real goal in mind. Pressure is supposed to come from the top down.

Try to remember what it was like when you were a first year (a couple of months ago) and be nice / reasonable. Also learn to understand when a senior will care about something and want it ASAP or when it’s just background work.

BB…our first years (now second) are elevated level of hardo from what I’ve seen in years past. They’re all pretty good for the most part but have issues with bigger picture and love crushing themselves and have already had the new first years working over protected weekends for meetings that were happening midweek of following week.

The amount of “above and beyond” they go to is strange. Recently asked for a comp set and it took forever and a day, the first year apologized to me and said it look a while to go through the filings. I open the backup and it’s entirely hand spread when the 2nd year knows full well we use a template with CIQ codes. They’ve adopted the “managing analyst” attitude.

They also have taken “communication” to extreme levels and can’t go longer than 10 minutes without a ping. They’re going to be nightmare associates if they stay on.

They started during a time where deal flow was minimal so they don’t know what it’s like to be genuinely crushed…I think that is a big part of it.

They’re lucky in some ways to have started when they did because it should be a lot more chill than ‘21. Some of them are still somehow pulling 90 hour weeks routinely. I look at their staffing sheet and am baffled by how much they’re working given a light-ish workload
