Have a call with a VP and Head of IB

Hey all,

I am an upcoming senior from a non-target in the South. I had been networking with a few people at a firm which is headquartered in the city I live in. Someone who I was networking with forwarded my resume to the EVP and Head of IB at the firm and said I am supposed to call him "at my convenience". Just got the notice today. How long should I wait to call him (a day or so)? How should I prepare (Should I be prepared for technical questions or just a normal conversation)? How can I show I am very interested and serious about working for them?

I never thought I'd actually make it this far networking, any advice/tips/info. would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot for that advice.

Any other topics I should talk about with him, like what kind of questions should I ask about him specifically?

Any other pointers would be really appreciated.

Intro with your interest in the industry and why you contacted him

I've done a lot of these informational calls, and from my experience, they really like to talk about the business and themselves. And this can be really helpful to help you learn about what exactly they do on a daily basis. Ask him about his industry group, how he became interested in the business, his career path, etc.

Ask about his career track, what he does, and his business segment. If you already know approximately what he does, google some recent events in that area and ask him more detailed questions regarding the issue - but try not to sound like you're quoting the WSJ, he'll catch on pretty fast. The most important thing is to realize that you should ask him what you really want to know. Explain that you've just finished high-school, so his expectations won't be that high and ask him what is of interest to you.
