Healthcare M&A

I come from a semi-target and I networked and found an alumni who is a director within healthcare at a good MM firm. I am meeting with him tomorrow and I want to impress him with at least a few questions or talking points about healthcare in the last year, anything I could read or look up today to help me prepare for this?

Healthcare has been arguable most active industry, at least in M&A this year. In terms of biggest deals, Pfizer's attempt on AstraZeneca (highest bid was over 118 Bn??), Abbvie acq Shire ~55 Bn?? (called off BC of inversion regulation), and Actavis acq Allergan $66Bn??. Plenty of other huge ones, and also Merck announced today ~$10Bn acq of Cubist.

But in all reality, you probably shouldn't talk about healthcare with him. Talk about banking in general, no reason to get into his wheelhouse.

Just ask him about his focus within healthcare - pharma, payers, devices, services, etc. DO NOT try to impress him by trying to make it sound like you know anything about the sector other than finding it interesting - this goes for any college student in any sector btw.

If he asks why you are interested, just say something about the aging baby boomer generation's increasing healthcare needs will create opportunity or that you realized how big and diverse the industry is following the ACA so you became interested.
