Help on career path ? ( commodities vs finance career path)
I am currently a 3rd year student studying Maths & Econ at the LSE and have an offer to join bp as an analytics grad for their trading teams ( forecasting S&D , market analysis etc.). The grad scheme is 3 years and will give me great insight into commod markets which is very interesting. Just worried about optionality afterwards as I am worried about restricting myself to just commods and compared to finance careers there is less optionality and potential for quick growth unless I manage to land a trading seat . Is it possible to move into finance after a couple years at bp given my strong academic background ( with a lot of work ) ? How would I approach this best ( do an internship this coming summer or masters or is there entry-level roles I can go into ? )? I love learning about the commodity industry but potential for lack of career growth just makes me question whether I should/should have put more effort into finance recruiting?
