Hiring MBA as an Analyst in IB
I have MBA in Finance & Marketing from a non- target school. I am extremly interested work in M&A. To pursue this, I took a training in financial modeling and a summer associate position in a Boutique firm. Now, I am still working as an Associate Intern(unpaid) in Boutique firm.
I am hunting for Full time Associate position. I have sponsorship requirements also. I have worked on 3 transactions in last 3 months and accquired necessary skills in modeling.
Here are my two questions. 1. I have heard that MBA'S are generally recruited as Associates in IB. What if I apply for Analyst position? Can I be considered as an eligible candidate for Analyst postion?
- What firms should I target for Associate position with my kind of experience?
Thanks in advance.

Unheard of MBA coming in as analyst.
I have never heard of an MBA getting hired as an analyst. That said, companies may be able to make an exception if you did a 5-year BS/MBA combined program or something similar. If you've got a few years of work experience and an MBA you're going to find it challenging to get an analyst position.
I can think of three people that were hired as Analysts out of MBA programs. All three guys came out of second/third tier MBA programs straight out of undergrad, so no full time work experience in between. They also got jobs at boutiques and this is in Toronto. Dunno if that helps.
