Congrats! Didn't know you had an offer so it sounded a little odd. Reason why people say this is because of the KKR or bust people on this site who haven't even stepped in the building of an investment bank.

Is Roths RX or not? Also is the Laz one under Laz MM or Freres?

Your only chance to not do MM work will be with the Lazard regional office, assuming you are not in Laz MM, if that's a consideration. Roths NY is a pretty good office for MM M&A, and would take them for sure if it's RX. Don't know enough about HL on the west coast to comment on them

Overall, I don't think these three offices are that far apart when you think about ops / prestige / deal flow / whatever else. My advice is to think about location (NY is best) and people (wherever you think you fit best). Regarding lateral ops after your summer, NY would be preferred for moving to another bank but you could probably also do it from the other places. Laz would be the best to internally move but I don't know how many looks you would get for NY from Chicago,

Laz is Freres - the midwestern advisory group. Roths is not RX, I believe the summer program is M&A generalist with groups decided later.

As for how I ended up here, I networked my ass off from a target school and interviewed at 18 shops. These are a few that remain.

My hope is not to work in Chicago in the long-term. That's the reason I'm not jumping at Laz. I have no idea about the ability to move internally, either after the internship or after an analyst stint. And I don't think the prestige of Laz necessarily holds up across regions.

As for HL on the west coast, I know they have made significant investments in their TMT practice through the acquisition of two teams, one in tech and the other in sports, media, entertainment.
