Redesign apparently in progress. Seems to be done now. Search is back.

not a fan of this redesign! search is still there though
upper right corner guys...sorry the site was messed up for ~15-20min. This redesign is mainly to get more of the content higher up. We felt our logo was so big that we were wasting a lot of space. We've also taken all of the community features and put them in a primary menu at the top, with all of our products, affiliate deals and services in the sub-menu at the bottom of the header.
It is far from perfect / done, so please be patient. If anything, this will allow users to view more content without scrolling.
Also, to get to your private messages, for now you will have to click "my account" and then the "messages" tab...we will be making this tab more interactive so you don't ahve to go to your profile, so that will likely be in the next week. I know people are usually resistant to redesign bc we become accustomed to a certain layout, but please give this one a chance for a week or so.

Not digging it, I'm on my iPhone and I used to be able to click forums and get the drop box. Know it just brings me to a new page with all the forums listed. Not cool.
this is coming back...again, please be patient guys. This layout will have everything the first one had, and will save ~1 inch of vertical space so you don't have to scroll so much on every story / thread you read.
Cool now? The drop downs should all be back like they were before (may have to refresh your browser cache or wait 15-20min if you are logged out)

Previous format was way better. But I'm glad those FB like buttons are gone.
Is it just me? It's not working on Chrome (menu buttons on top right don't show up) but it's working on IE.
Also... dunno why there's such a big banner on JDOasis.com in the top middle of the page. It looks weird with WSO logo on the side getting 2nd billing (though I assume this is just a temporary thing as the designer works out the kinks)
Can't see my messages. Where are they? :( Went into 'My Account' but can't find the Messages tab anywhere.

I think the layout is fine. They will fix the bugs in the next week. Its like every time Facebook changes the layout everyone is pissed off and makes groups to get it changed back to the old way.... three weeks later no one even remembers what the old layout looked like and when Facebook changes it again, people will bitch and the cycle will continue.
Same thing will happen here.

lol... I'm not going to complain about the format since Patrick's still working out kinks, and WSO has been great. But I guess I'll point out another thing I noticed that wasn't mentioned just as a FYI:
When starting a new post, the "smart-detect" type-box for tag-lines used to allow the user to start typing and it gives a list of prior tags to choose from. When I checked recently, that type box is now replaced with a selection box where you have to hold CTRL + mouse select to choose multiple tags.
I don't know if this is permanent, but I think the previous version was more efficient. With this one, you have to scroll down thousands of tag lines to choose and select (esp. if you need to hold CTRL, it's cumbersome). I think this setup discourages people from selecting multiple tag lines.
@ Kanon - this was done to help site performance...when we allowed free-tagging we were getting hundreds of random tags every day and the table had grown to ~27k random terms, so we deleted about 17k of them. This has helped the site move faster. In orer to prevent that table from growing to a ridiculous size again, we have allowed users to select a tag...I agree it would be better if they could type it in, so we will look for a solution to that.
Also, FYI, if you hover over "my account" now, you can see a menu drop down that will take you directly to your WSO inbox.

There was a lot of duplication, the tags didn't recognize when "interview" and "Interview" were the same or when it was something like "interview" and "interview help"... or Goldman, Goldman Sachs or GS... and so on...
I guess your team will figure out a solution around that, but maybe some way to limit "new" tags (unless it's something unique and didn't already exist). But otherwise, allow the user to select via typing and smart-detect from a list of common tags like GS, JPM, MS, MBB, etc.
Kanon, I completely agree - we still need to go in and delete the duplicates -- and a typing system would be much better.

I mean I am forced to use Internet Explorer (which I hate). WSO isn't showing up properly on Chrome... the top right options are blank (at least, that's what I'm seeing, or not seeing in this case)
Those who can't see search - disable adblock plus for the website.
cant see search? I see it across all browsers in upper right corner. What we might be doing for registered users is use the 728x90 ad space to display all of the user information...but that is still in the early stages of dev...
The search bar doesn't appear when adblock plus is enabled...have to disable it to see the search bar...along with the new drop down menu on the top.

found the issue here - but in order not to completely disrupt the site by having to clear the cache, we will probably wait until 2 or 3am EST tonight to clear it again...thanks for the patience
hey Kanon...when you say "top right options", do you mean the logout button is slightly behind the search bar? Just noticed that on my IE version....

No I mean all the menu items like 'Recent', 'Forums', 'FAQs', 'Groups' were completely missing from my Chrome. But it looks like it's showing up now. : )
And yeah the search bar is covering logout in IE
Total mess when using Opera. No drop-downs and search.
if you have ad blocker installed, that could be the issue. We will be fixing that this evening as I mentioned above. Thanks for the patience. We did not debug for Opera since less than 1% of our visitors use Opera.

I for one like it even if it isn't fully finished. I hated having to scroll half a screen down before I was seeing any of the thread. It's cleaner up top now; I'm a fan.

hey guys - if you were having issues with ad blocker, should be fine now...still have a long way to go to get everything fixed like we want it (for example, to display all user data like before when you hover over my account), but i think it will grow on you as you use it more.

Under "My Account" is the banana info: I just realized you can still access it under the general account info, so it's probably not needed. Sorry about the bad suggestion. On the plus side, this really IS more convenient.
layout is a bit off in firefox as well. I just upgraded to version 6, and it doesn't make a difference. The search box in the upper right corner lays over the logout link.
