Hope Without Experience?
I'm getting trounced right now in my job search. I have an MBA ('12) and a background in Corp. Finance and Accounting. I got the MBA part-time so OCR was not an option. I was recently let go from my job through no fault of my own. The PE fund I worked on was sold by the bank, so they let me go. I saw it coming and made moves internally almost a year in advance.
At first I viewed it as a blessing because I wanted to shop my MBA and move into banking as an Associate. What I do not have however is any transaction experience. And as a result I made it to the final rounds of two different IBD positions but lost out for not having experience. At least that's what I was told.
Small firms want experience and large firms have a glut of resumes from people laid off at other firms.
So my question is: What is the hope for someone like me looking to break into banking without having ever been a banker?
