Hourly rate I should ask for? (boutique IB internship)
I'm applying for a boutique bank internship and they asked me for my hourly rate. I'm not looking to make a job out of this and just want the exp. I'm going to have to move into an apartment for the internship and can pay for part of it. How much should I ask for?
It's in an area near SF, so the living expenses are silghtly above the national average.
competitive
Tell them what your situation is and ask them what their basis is for previous intern offers? However, if you ask for a competitive wage, whatever that is (usually indicative of past hires/market rates/job reqs.), they will give you enough to live on I'd presume. Competitive is a good term because it is not too specific while maintaining that you'd like fair compensation for your work.
Just say "market rate". Most firms have budget to pay for intern unless they specifically listed out as "unpaid internship". And firms (good firms that you want to work for) are not going to rescind your offer just because you asked to be paid "market rate". And if all else failed, you can also ask for this:
If they want a number, go with $17-$19. I got €15 when I worked part-time at a BB in my final year.
$17-$19 is really low..
Give them a choice: either a fixed salary at 70k prorated or 25/hr. take the counteroffer if they come back with 60k prorated or 20/hr. don't "pre-negotiate" and low-ball yourself.
SAY $5.55 BECAUSE 5 IS YOUR LUCKY NUMBER. IT'S DEFINITELY MY LUCKY NUMBER!
what about $55.55?
